Stephen Hadley

Stephen Hadley is a founding partner of The RiceHadley Group, formed with former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Anja Manuel, former special assistant to Nicholas Burns, undersecretary for political affairs at the U.S. Department of State. The firm assists CEOs and senior executives at major corporations in expanding their businesses in key emerging markets such as China, India, Latin America and the Middle East.

Prior to joining RiceHadley, Mr. Hadley was national security advisor to President George W. Bush, where he was responsible for a large range of national security issues including managing China/Taiwan relations, developing a strategic ties with India and conducting key dialogue with Russia.

Mr. Hadley previously was both a principal in The Scowcroft Group, a strategic consulting firm headed by former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft, and a partner in Washington, D.C., law firm Shea and Gardner, now part of Goodwin Proctor. In his consulting practice, he represented U.S. corporate clients in transactional and international matters involving sanctions, export controls and foreign investment in U.S. national security companies.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Hadley served as assistant secretary of defense for international security policy for President George H. W. Bush, as well as a member of the National Security Council staff of President Gerald R. Ford.

Mr. Hadley has served as an active member on several corporate and advisory boards, including the Department of Defense Policy Board, The National Security Advisory Panel to the director of central intelligence and the board of directors of the U.S. Institute of Peace, where he is currently a senior advisor. He was also as a trustee of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Mr. Hadley graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University. He received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School, where he was note and comment editor for the Yale Law Journal.
